Alopecia Totalis Alopecia Totalis simply refers to the hair loss condition that results in total loss of scalp hair. This condition stems from that of alopecia areata, the symptoms of which tend to start as small patches of hair loss which multiply, eventually expanding and coalesce. The skin may exhibit stubble and pink or spongy skin. The cause is that of an autoimmune response resulting in the body effectively attacking itself. In such a condition the hair follicles on the scalp are all affected resulting in total loss of scalp hair. Alopecia Totalis is a difficult condition to treat. The most effective method of treating alopecia totalis is to irritate the skin in such a way that it causes the body to defend the irritation and subsequently, taking the body's mind of what it is doing. There are many methods of causing such an irritation. However, I must point out that this should only be conducted by a professional trichologist. Purchasing potions and lotions on the internet that suggest that they will cure such a condition is dangerous.
